You mean how useful a programming language is right? There is nothing Perl can do that Python or Ruby can't, implying there is just highlights your ignorance about anything outside of Perl.

Of course this comment will be deleted, so feel free to stick your head back in the sand.

You might want to find somewhere more appropriate to make your point, as nobody here is arguing with it. This website exists to counter the persistent rumour that Perl is in some way 'dead'. It doesn't have anything to say about other languages - they have their own advocacy sites to say positive things about them, and the Internet contains far too much that is negative already.

I think you miss the point, lots of things we spend a lot of time learning don't actually prove that useful themselves. Sometimes learning something apparently minor makes a big difference.

In this example the cartoon author thinks that Perl makes a big difference and yes it's probably true that other similar programming languages are probably as good. This is a Perl advocacy site, not a foo advocacy site, so it is appropriate to point out that a popular cartoonist chose Perl not foo for the cartoon.

I think you will find that most Perl programmers are not ignorant of Python or Ruby, while their may be some rivalry, Perl does and will cherry pick anything from other languages that helps, Perl is not insular and exclusive.
