Kephra, the editor written in Perl, has reached its first version that is UTF-safe and installable via CPAN. The all in one package for Windows users is still available under http://kephra.sf.net/
This is the fourth DEVELOPMENT release in the 5.13.x series leading to a stable release of Perl 5.14.0. You can find a list of high-profile changes in this release in the file "perl5133delta.pod" inside the distribution.
From Gabriel Weinberg's blog: www.gabrielweinberg.com. I often get asked what Duck Duck Go "runs on." This post basically answers that question by outlining the major moving parts that serve queries, i.e. its architecture. I'll detail in another post what, in particular, makes it fast, i.e. tunables and other specifics.
After 6 months of development work, following 2 years worth of design and preparation, CPAN Testers 2.0 is finally live.
My previous job was with a company that was wedded to UNIX and Perl. This was where I was introduced to it and taught how to develop with it.
After some time out I got involved in .NET and their framework, and all it's related inflexibility - having to use CSS controllers to get it to render acceptable HTML that was not table based.
When starting an outside of work project I decided to get back into a language that I enjoyed the most, Perl.
First, a very very big thank you to people who have filled in the survey and spread the word. After a little less than a week, we have 2500 responses. For this kind of survey, that kind of response is incredible, and many researchers will be envious of obtaining a sample that large, that easily.
The rate of responses is about double that of the 2007 survey which stayed open for about two months to obtain 4000 completed questionnaires. In all likelihood I'll close this survey down at the end of the first week of June (after 2.5 weeks), so to get more interesting data I'd like your help.
Out of sight, and out of mind. Perl has taken a backseat the last few years in terms of hype, but the language is alive, well, and still holding the Internet together. With the release of Perl 5.12 a few weeks ago, it's time to take stock of and address the misconceptions around Perl.
I have been looking for an easy way to find quick code samples in various scripting/programming languages and I am now creating a community for sharing this kind of code. Zybocodes is a community where you can showcase your Perl skills and at the same time help budding Perl programmers to easily find good sample code snippets.
